Zenler the Best Learning Management and Marketing System for My Business, Training Dogs take a journey through the world of dogs with Zoe...
I've been into dogs since I was old enough to point at them. As I got slightly older and didn’t have my own dog, I would borrow my neighbours' dogs.
One I was extremely lucky to frequently borrow was Suzi, an Irish Setter x Springer Spaniel young adolescent dog. By chance, I met a local dog trainer who saw my passion for all things dog and began showing me how to train traditional obedience with Suzi.
She was an amazing dog, really great fun and slightly crazy, just like me. By the age of 12, I had reached a good enough level that we even entered an obedience competition and got a rosette!
Finally, after too many years (in my opinion), my parents had jobs that made my dream a reality and we got our first family dog.
This led to a 30+ year love of Wheaten Terriers and competing in various dog activities, from conformation showing at Crufts to Rally Obedience. Terriers are typically very smart dogs, yet this can often land them in trouble.
They get labels like stubborn or naughty dogs, but many issues can disappear when their needs are met.
This applies to many other breeds and crossbreeds as well. Finding your dog's individual reward preferences can make living with a dog much smoother.
After various animal-related jobs, I worked for 14 years in the rescue sector. This again sparked a fire in me to do more dog training and created a passion to help keep dogs out of rescue.
Even the most chill dog can find shelter life stressful, resulting in problem behaviours like excessive barking, destruction of soft materials, and toileting accidents.
Dog training has changed hugely since I started with Suzi, fortunately for the better, and it’s still evolving. Being able to get assessed for a dog training qualification was very important to me, as there is no regulation for becoming a dog trainer.
I wanted to make it very clear that in such a confusing market, there are logos and certificates people can look for that indicate a standard of knowledge and skill and a promise not to intentionally cause harm to dogs or their family members.
I enjoy working with all breeds and life stages, especially rehomed dogs, but my favourite has to be the puppy stage. Having been involved with raising nine family dogs from birth to adulthood, there's nothing that makes me go more gooey than seeing a pup figure something out for the first time.
Helping a new owner avoid some of the pitfalls of dog ownership and supporting the puppy as they find their rhythm and where they fit in this crazy human world takes patience and consistency.
Having people comment on how great my adult dogs are when we are out and about is very rewarding.
I have been consistently refining this process for my clients, hoping each dog will have their home for life from the start or be extremely easy to rehome should the guardian's circumstances change unexpectedly.
Not only do I draw on my own experience, but I fully immerse myself in continuous learning. In this ever-changing industry, we are finding more ways to set humans and dogs up for success.
I believe it is crucial to stay abreast of developments so that I can offer the best experience to my clients and their dogs and puppies.
Using my knowledge and experience, I have dedicated free and paid courses to help you raise a great family companion, either with or without direct assistance from me. Until recently, I was only able to serve my local community.
Now, with Zenler's excellent free platform, I can do more and reach further. The fantastic A-Z Zenler tutorials have taken me through each step of building a site (I’m certainly no tech genius) with easy-to-understand follow-along videos.
By registering for additional free webinars with vast amounts of information I didn’t even know I needed, I am now looking to expand my reach.
My next goal is to create a consistent online income to be able to upgrade from the free to the Pro Zenler platform.
This will allow me to take advantage of even more technology (I really want to use the booklets and host live training on my site rather than using an additional app) and reach more wonderful puppy guardians who are looking to have companion dogs resilient to this fast-moving, sometimes worrying, human-oriented world.
If you would like to join the growing ranks of people utilising ethical, up-to-date, scientifically proven methods of teaching to give you and your puppy the best training experience and a lifelong bond, please visit my site for further information.
